At the award ceremony

Winners of the Hino Dream Truck & Bus Art Contest were
announced at an awards ceremony held during the Autumn
Festival at Hino Motors, Ltd. headquarters on October 20.
A total of 773 entries featuring images based on the subject
“The Future Car (Trucks and Buses) of Your Dreams” were
received from children up to 12 years of age (elementary
school students) in Japan and around the world.

The awards were presented in person to the winners by Chief Judge Yoshio Shirai, President of Hino Motors,
Ltd. together with Special Guest Judge Dr. Mamoru Mohri, the well-known Japanese astronaut, as a great
many visitors watched under blue autumn skies.
“Each of these pictures contains a wonderful message that reminds us of the importance of our global
environment and of humankind itself. It is our job at Hino to build motor vehicles that carry things, and
I hope that our products will always carry dreams and hopes for the future, just like in these pictures,” said
President Shirai. He also mentioned how difficult it was to select the winners from so many wonderful entries.

Dr. Mohri, a special guest judge for the contest who also spoke at the ceremony said, “Each of these drawings
depicts a very exciting dream. I was quite impressed with the drawing that was awarded 1st Prize because it
featured a bus of the future that could link Ecuador to Japan by traveling through the ocean. I am looking
forward to the day when we build trucks and buses that travel through the ocean, through outer space, and
on other planets like Mars. Congratulations to all the participants!”
The ceremony concluded with a display of a Hino Dutro and Hino Poncho, which had been decorated with the
winning drawings.

At the luncheon

After the ceremony, President Shirai, Dr. Mohri, and the contest winners celebrated the awards at a luncheon.
As they enjoyed their lunch, the award winners were treated to stories about space exploration by Dr. Mohri
and about how Hino trucks and buses are built by Mr. Matsuyama, general manager of Hino Motors Design
Division. The contest winners also received water-soluble crayons from President Shirai and a copy of
Dr. Mohri’s book Moma-no-kasei-tankenki (Moma’s Voyage to Mars). Also, President Shirai received a model
of an Ecuadorean bus from 1st Prize winner Miss Adriana Vinueza.

The luncheon ended with a special surprise: two cakes in the shape of
trucks, which became the centerpiece for a commemorative group photo
before being happily devoured by everyone.
